What's happening in the hives right now?
What a spring and what a start to the beekeeping season so far. We collected three new colonies from the hills of Exmoor and drove them to their new home at the farm in Bruton. The orchard was full of blossom and the bees couldn’t have arrived at a better time. The new queens are settling in already and it’s clear the bees are happy — they were out foraging almost straight away, flying back covered in bright pollen.
The great run of spring weather is continuing and the bees are making the most of it. We’ve already added supers to most of the hives, some already filled with Somerset honey. It’s such a relief to see the season unfold like a textbook for once! Strong colonies, the countryside in full bloom and the bees thriving right from the start. It’s shaping up to be a great year - hopefully with a bumper crop of honey.
